Performance Prediction for Processors and External Resources

چکیده
Regular forms of Amdahl’s law and the universal scalability model are functions of the number of processors p alone, therefore modelling only data sets with a single machine varying in its processor count. This paper demonstrates how these performance models can be expressed in terms of intrinsic machine characteristics such as: processor clock; external resource access speed; total threads; etc. Our new models broaden all previous applications including: sensitivity analysis, forecasting, scaling; while providing new ones such as evaluations for: migration, purchase, upgrading, etc.

Using Machine Learning Techniques for Performance Prediction on Multi-Cores
Sharing of resources by the cores of multi-core processors brings performance issues for the system. Majority of the shared resources belong to memory hierarchy sub-system of the processors such as last level caches, prefetchers and memory buses. Programs co-running on the cores of a multi-core processor may interfere with each other due to usage of such shared resources. Such interference caus...
متن کاملModeling and Performance Evaluation of Multi-Processors Organization with Shared Memories
This paper is primarily concerned with theoretical evaluation of the performance of multiprocessors system. A markovian waiting line model has been developed for various different multi-processors configurations, with shared memory. The system is analysed at the request level rather than job level.
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis on Hardware Resources in SMT Processors
The microprocessor performance is increased by allowing multiple threads per clock cycle to issue instructions in simultaneous multithreading processors. Shared hardware resources are the key components of SMT processor performance. In SMT processors, impact to the performance will not be same among many hardware resources. To design an optimal hardware configuration for SMT processors, sensiti...

Processor architectures will increasingly rely on issuing multiple instructions to make full use of available processor resources. When issuing multiple instructions on conventional processors, accurate branch prediction is critical to performance; mispredicted branches may mean that ten’s of cycles may be wasted. Architectures combining very effective branch prediction mechanisms coupled with ...
